MA Dissertation #2

NEW WEBINAR ON 20 JUNE  - CLICK HERE FOR LINK TO CLASS
WiZIQ webinar on 20th June

This blog on the use of ICT and web tools in English language teaching continues to be a focal point for my Masters dissertation.  I have so far conducted one webinar, on 7 June, which discussed the tools that teachers are currently using and how they go about learning these.  I used this small focus group, consisting of six participants plus one more who submitted their responses after the event, to formulate ideas for a survey questionnaire on a similar theme.    I have now devised that questionnaire and wish to run it past the same or similar group of professionals.  If, however, you weren't part of the original group and wish to join me I am going to conduct the (link now removed) this Wednesday 20 June, at 6pm / 1800 HRS BST (that's 1700HRS GMT/UCT).

This is an important part of the process, to check the validity of the questions, before I send the questionnaire, along with a monthly newsletter, out to nearly 9000 people signed up to Russell Stannard's Teacher Training Videos website.  Many of the professionals on this email list will not be involved in ELT and, of course, questionnaires have serious limitations in response rate.  I am, nonetheless, hoping for 100 replies.  I also have access to other EFL teachers through my personal learning network, which has grown from practically nothing at the start of this year, and I will contact those people more directly, via Twitter, Facebook and via this blog.

I am looking for EFL teachers who are able to take part in the webinar and also to complete the questionnaire. The webinar, using the WiZIQ tool, will last around 30-40 minutes. If you are interested please comment below, send me a direct message to @teacherphili on Twitter or make a comment below.

The actual questionnaire can then be circulated, subject to any modifications, on 21 June after the webinar has taken place and there will be a link on this blog post directly to it so that anyone can complete it.

In the meantime, I will continue to write my 5,000 word literature review, which includes, of course, what other research has been done in this area. Although there is much written about the implentation and integration of technology into the classroom, I am specifically restricting my focus to teachers working in ELT, due to my MA coming under the Centre of Applied Linguistics, here at the University of Warwick.
